11 Months Old

7-17-09 She army crawled from the front door to the back door for her first long distance crawl.

7-25-09 While out camping we discovered her first tooth had come in. It's her bottom right front tooth. She never did any fussing or anything. All of a sudden I just noticed a white thing in her mouth. As the fat part of the tooth is coming in she seems to be more sensitive to hot or cold foods, but otherwise she's still not bothered by it.

7-31-09 She opened her first cabinet door in the kitchen and spilled a container of toothpicks.

8-2-09 She sat in a chair and drank a bottle all by herself. She finally figured out how to hold the bottle without handles and get all of it into her mouth during the last month so we don't always have to feed her. Sometimes it's still enjoyable to hold our baby while we feed her. She won't be a baby for too much longer!

This month she also learned how to point with her right index finger. She thinks it's a great game to point and have people point back at her.

She's eating more fruits and vegetables than last month. We've also added chicken, beef, and pork to her diet. Our home scale says she's up to 21.6 pounds. She's growing like a weed!

She's a pretty vocal baby. Her "words" include da, ma, ga, ra, ba, woe, dee. A couple times I heard her put "da" and "dee" together while she was babbling.

Lancaster County "Super" Fair

We took Mena to the Lancaster County Fair on August 8th. Not sure why it's the "super" fair now. It was ok but I wouldn't call it "super." Anyway, it was fun to watch Mena responding to the different animals. The top picture shows her facial expression as she snatched her hand back from the rabbit. I'm not sure what she was expecting, but she kind of freaked out when she first touched it. A few minutes later she reached out to touch another rabbit by herself. She also got to see turkeys, chickens, roosters, ducks, geese, a kangaroo, 2 baby bison, some lamas, and some other animals I can't remember. Her favorite animal is still the dog waiting at home for us!

Saltdogs' Game August 7th

Mena enjoyed her second baseball game. When we saw the Twins vs. the Yankees, she fell asleep in Gene's lap. This game she stayed awake the whole time. She went to sleep when we got home around 10:30 pm! The baseball she's holding is one that her Uncle Dave (Gene's brother on his Dad's side of the family) found for her. She didn't want to let go of it!

Isn't She Cute?!

She's just such a cute kid! We're kind of partial to her!

Camping with the Sykes

We went camping at Branched Oak with Tess, Morgan, and Rex Sykes the weekend of July 25th.

Tess is entertaining Mena and Rex with a moose puppet.

Mena liked their dog Lucy as much as she likes Emmy Lou.

I thought Mena might prefer to lay on a sheet, but she kept crawling off of it. She crawled to get the empty box. She crawled off so she could pull grass and pick up twigs and scratch at the dirt. She seems to be an outdoor kind of girl.

Here she was laying on my lap while I snapped the picture. She's reaching up to pull on the wrist strap.

Gene snapped a picture of her hanging upside down on my lap.

Whose Ball is It?

Here's a video of Mena crawling across the floor to take Emmy Lou's ball. Mena is getting all over the house with her army crawling.

Who Needs Toys?

Mena was very interested in what we were doing when we wrapped food up to put in the freezer. We gave her a piece of foil and she wadded it up into a ball.

Exercising with Mommy

When I do my pilates, Mena likes to crawl right up next to me. She even manages to get her upper body on top of me now, so I figure pretty soon she'll figure out how to get her whole body on top of mine when she wants my attention!

Walking with Nicole

We went walking at Gateway when the weather was too warm to be outside. Rather than using the stroller as normal, Mena twisted her body so her head was hanging over the side to look at Nicole and eventually she lifted her feet to hang off the opposite side. Nicole snapped this picture with her phone.
