Girl Scout Tea Party

The 1st grade Girl Scouts invited our troop to a tea party.  The girls have each written a letter to a girl in the other troop.  Mena's pen pal is Hannah and when Mena met her today, she realized that she's the Hannah that she plays with at daycare after school, too!

Sharing Easter Candy

I read in a magazine about sending treats to soldiers stationed overseas.  I found the website and the girls decided to share some of their candy with the "Roman" soldiers.  I tried multiple times to explain that these are American soldiers and not the Roman soldiers from the Bible story.  While at HyVee, we bought some Wheat Thins, granola bars, and coffee to send with the candy.  Less that we eat and teaching the girls to share at the same time.  They actually ended up putting over half of their candy into the ziplock baggie to share; I was impressed.  The cards they made with glitter glue say, "Thank you for keeping all the people safe."  Once the glitter glue dries, we'll go to the post office and learn how to mail a package to an APO address.

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday the children parade around the sanctuary with palm branches.  Gene showed up with his wife and step-daughter who wanted to wave palm branches, too.  His wife took some good pictures of Gene, Maggie, Mena, and I.  Their step-sister was either behind her palm branch or behind Mena in all the pictures.

Easter Bunny Made a Visit

The Easter Bunny brought stuff for the girls on Palm Sunday since we don't know what we'll be doing on Easter Sunday.  Maggie woke up first and found some eggs.  I told her we should probably go let Mena know so she could find some eggs first.  Mena was mad to be woke up but thought it was worth getting out of bed when she realized why Maggie was waking her up.  Maggie was dancing around with excitement during the whole egg hunt.  It took Mena awhile to wake up.  Mena was super excited to have an electric tooth brush "just like yours, Mom!"  The girls wore their new sandals to church and used their glitter glue to make cards when they got home.

4-H Easter Party

The girls went with their step-sister to her 4-H Easter Party where she was showing her rabbit.  Mena enjoyed holding the baby rabbit and was brave enough to sit on the Easter Bunny's lap.  Gene said that Maggie's look said there was no way she would sit on that bunny's lap.  She stuck by her dad while Mena got her picture taken with the Easter Bunny.  Maggie got face paint to "be Elsa."  I think Mena's was to look like a rabbit.

Church Easter Party at the Children's Museum

This is the second year our church rented the Children's Museum after hours to have an Easter party.  The girls enjoyed playing with friends on the main floor and then rejoiced over the chocolate they found in the eggs hiding all over the top floor.  I enjoyed chatting with friends knowing that everyone in the museum was from our church and we didn't have to watch as closely as we do when the museum is as crowded as it sometimes gets during business hours.

Cherub Choir -- Hosanna!

The girls' cherub choir sang "Hosanna!" in church.

Havelock Park

Last summer Maggie couldn't climb onto this alligator by herself and this spring she can!  We drove through Amigos and ate our supper at Havelock park after the GS Water = Life event.

Girl Scouts: Water = Life event

Mena and Bella drawing a picture about what they know about the importance of water.

Mena filling her cup with aquarium gravel.  The woman then added water was the girls could learn about the water level.  By pushing their rocks to the side, they created surface water with a pond and mountain.

The woman told a story about a fish swimming in nice clean water.  Then the fish went down the river and different people/places polluted the water.

The girls had two different water relays.  During the first relay, the girls scooped water out of a bucket into their cup and then carried the cup to another.  Water conservation was taught by the winner having the most water in the second bucket.

During the second water relay, the girls had to pour water from cup to cup to cup down the line to the second bucket.  It was faster but more water was wasted.

Left to right is Tessa, Presley, Mena, and Bella.  Heather and I enjoyed taking these four girls to the girl scout event.
